Energy Efficiency Award 2010 - 30.12.2009

The German Energy Agency (dena - the Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH) has been honouring achievements in energy efficiency with the “Energy Efficiency Award“ since 2007. Its cooperation partners are the Deutsche Messe and the DZ BANK AG. The aim behind awarding model projects is to motivate other companies to increase their energy efficiency.

Aker Exploration AS withdraws its application for hydrocarbon exploration licence - 20.7.2009

The National Energy Authority has today, July 20th 2009, received a letter from Aker Exploration AS.

The letter states that due to change in company strategy, the Aker Exploration AS has decided to withraw its application for hydrocarbon exploration and production licence according to the the First Licensing Round 2009 on the Dreki Area. Read more

Results of the First Licensing Round 2009 for the northern Dreki area - 18.5.2009

The closing date for the First Licensing Round for the northern Dreki area was 15 May 2009. The National Energy Authority (NEA) of Iceland received two applications by the closing date. Read more

The First Licensing Round on the Icelandic continental shelf in the northern Dreki area is closed - 18.5.2009

The National Energy Authority (NEA) of Iceland hereby declares the First Licensing Round for the northern Dreki Area closed for applications as of today, 15 May 2009, at 16:00 GMT, in accordance with Act No. 13/2001 on prospecting, exploration and production of hydrocarbon, including later amendments, the corresponding regulation No. 38/2009 and Article 3(2)(a) of Directive 94/22/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 May 1994 on the conditions for granting and using authorizations for the prospection, exploration and production of hydrocarbons.

Fugro NPA's Offshore Iceland SAR Seep Study - 19.3.2009

Fugro NPA has acquired a satellite Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) study of the Dreki licensing area in which potential seeps have been identified. SAR seep detection is a proven technique for mapping oil seeps and can provide the first indication of the existence of black oil petroleum systems. These are very important results, since one of the critical factors to success in undrilled deep water settings is source presence and maturity. Read more

Icelandic student team scoops first place in an international student petroleum exploration competition - 3.2.2009

Pupils from Hofn in Iceland have taken first place in an international energy industry challenge. The team from Framhaldsskólinn í Austur-Skaftafellssýslu collected their £1000 team prize and a crystal trophy at the International OilSim Final on Saturday, proving they are budding energy stars of the future.
